Perroquet Series: Cockatiels WIP

A sneak preview of a potential series that could be in store for 2011.The "Perroquet Series" will be a series of pictures featuring parrot/parakeet girls. I'm hoping to have at least 6 pictures in the series. After holding a poll on deviatArt to see what species of pet birds people like, I can definately say that macaws, cockatiels (shown here) and budgies will make the list of species used as those three species dominated the polls.
The rest of the species are up in the air right now (no pun intended). This will be a series that I will be working on between commissions... so I'll be realistic and say that if I do continue the series it will take me at least a few months to complete. When this picture is colored, one of the 'tiels will be a standard grey cockatiel while the other one will most likely be a color mutation. Most likely either a pied or a lutino.

Seagull Avatar & Vixen Lineart

I've been working on a few smaller commissions the past few weeks. First up is an avatar of an unnamed seagull character. Basically the client sent me some photos of himself and asked me to draw him as a gull.

It was fun because I rarely get to draw seagulls. :)

Second is a line art commission of a fox character. I had a lot of freedom with this one as well... the client basically gave a description of the character and a brief description of the armor and told me she wanted to see my interpritation.
I am extremely pleased with the end result... and honestly wish that this would have been a color commission because I am in love with the line art. >_>

Astral Chimera 2010 now on sale!!!

This book is now available for purchase!

The cover for the 2010 installment of my Astral Chimera art book series. It features every 8.5x11 full color picture that I've created during that year.

Normally a print from me costs $10, but for the price of just a few prints you can have a book full of over 80 prints so it really is a good deal.

All prints in this book do not have watermarks or copyright information on them.

Art Book Cover - Early Doodles

Remember that poll I did on deviantArt a while back asking which character people would like to see me draw for a specific project? Okay... maybe you don't remember... but I did make one. Said project was actually the cover of my next art book. Three out of the four characters were neck and neck with votes so I went with Ran-Qui since she was the only one on the list that I actually consider to be a "fursona".
I've started picking colors and fonts for this year's art book as well as doing a few "Brainstorm" doodles for poses. I do want an action pose, but as she is a fan character, I'm leaving out all Star Wars references... in particular her lightsabers. I don't want George Lucas to show up at my doorstep with a platoon of Clone Troopers and go all Order 66 on my ass. :p

In all actuality, I'm not 100% happy with any of the poses. I'm planning on using a combination of poses in the final version. The main color of the book cover will be an emerald green so it will look good on the shelf next to last year's blue-covered book. I selected my character for this year carefully... because red-heads tend to look very nice in green!

Tiger Drake: Coloring in Progress

The flat color of her main body have been laid down here.
As you can see, the color is a bit muted until shading is added. I find that a more neutral base color prevents the end result from being eyeblindingly bright!
I also have a few notes for myself about what colors go where. This just helps keep my mind on track about what the final color scheme will be when she's finished.
Yes, I am well aware that I have horrible handwriting. :p
Below, I have a 15 minute video of me doing the final detailing of her body. She has already been shaded, I'm just adding a few extra details to really make the image stand out.

I hope to have her finished up sometime tonight.

Tiger Drake: Line Art

The completed line art for my tigerdrake girl. She now has a temporary name as well. Takura Suntail. I don't know if the name will stick, but that's what I'm gonna call her for now. :)
This was outlined with an HB mechanical pencil and scanned into my computer. Yes, I do all my line art by hand... I'm not sure why most everyone seems to think that I do my work 100% digitally. LOL.
I decided to leave the fabu foo statue in the picture after all. It kind of grew on me, especially after it was outlined.
At this point she's ready for the coloring stage... which, yes, I do digitally. I'm still planning on tiger markings and colors for her... with either blue or purple in the wings. Possibly white hair. I still haven't finalized her color scheme, yet. There is yet time for things to change.
As you can tell, I'm usually very indesciceve about my character designs until they are on paper.

Tiger Drake: First Draft

First draft of a yet unnamed dragon character. As of right now, I'm planning on giving her tiger colors and markings. That may change as I work on her.
I'm planning on posting every step of this picture on my blog. Why? I dunno... maybe someone out there will learn something by my methods. She's in the very early stages so some things may change. Not sure if I like the foo dog statue... I may change that to something else.
This was sketched out with a 1H pencil.

Those of you who pay attention to my galleries have already seen the English version of this. I was requested to do a German version as well by the client.

Aspect of Balodius - Sketches

I'm part of the "Windsonde" group on deviantArt.

Windsonde is a quality controlled group that does gryphon related art challenges.

The group is doing an event called the "Aspect of Balodius", basically a masquerade ball for gryphons where we have to draw our gryphon character with another member's gryphon character at the ball. My gryphie, Malfosa was randomly paired with Nashoba's owliegryph, Cotuil.
Mal is going to be wearing a fox costume... because he thinks it makes him look sexy and he wants to pick up chicks. I did this sketch in about 30 seconds for my partner to use as a reference for his costume:

And the line art of my art for the festival. Dunno if I'm happy with it, though. I may end up scrapping the whole thing and just starting over.

Black and White - WIP

I've hit a serious art block so I've been doing random doodles to draw whatever comes to my mind at the time to try to force myself out of it.
For the most part, that technique hasn't been working too well... but I do come up with some cool things from time to time.

Here's a work in progress of one of the random things I've done during one of my mindless doodle sessions. The title for it will be "Black and White", which is an obvious reference to the colors of the characters. I won't say too much about that since I want the final color scheme to be a surprise for my watchers! :)

Ya Rly!

Sooo... I figured it was about time for me to start a sketch blog. I have so many thoughts and ideas that just don't make it to paper - plus it gives me another place to post any works in progress to avoid cluttering up the inboxes of my dA/FA watchers. :)

I was going to keep this as an exclusive for my art book, but I think it's too funny not to publicly share. This month's Gryphon Exchange was a portrait round, meaning only the head and shoulders of the character. I got to draw Grandoize's owliegryph. Owls have such funny expressions so I couldn't resist turning her character into an "O Rly?" owl.
